Our businesses provide training and employment to over 200 adults with intellectual disability; help balance and improve quality of life; contribute to annual revenues; and support our full range of programs. When you purchase a product or service through social enterprises you help us support and empower participants to lead the quality of life they choose.
Some enterprises have evolved through natural fits with our participants and facility. Others come from taking advantage of the right opportunities when they arise. Often businesses approach us when they see the potential for a win-win project. We are always up for new ideas and with a great workforce and management team, are able to take advantage of many of these opportunities.

Summer Street operates several businesses that pair quality products and services with meaningful employment for adults with diverse abilities. Awards, Trophies & Custom Gifts produces trophies, awards, and personalized items for sports teams, businesses, and special occasions. Catering serves weddings, meetings, banquets, and community events on- and off-site with menus tailored to each group. Employment Services works with more than fifty local employers to create lasting job matches, training, and follow-up support. Facility Rentals provide flexible hall space for gatherings of all sizes at our Park Street location, and Summer Street Farm grows fresh produce with participant involvement through the seasons.
When you purchase from a Summer Street social enterprise, you help fund wages, on-the-job training, and the broader programs that support inclusion across Pictou County. Community customers are essential partners in our mission to open minds and create change.
Training, revenue, and program support
Social enterprises account for a significant share of Summer Street operating revenue. That income helps balance program fees, supports capital needs, and funds initiatives that might not otherwise be possible. Participants gain real workplace experience—customer service, food preparation, production, janitorial skills, horticulture, and more—while contributing to businesses their neighbours rely on.
Partnership and new ideas
Some enterprises grew naturally from participant skills and our facility. Others began when local businesses approached us with win-win opportunities. Our management team evaluates new ideas based on participant fit, training potential, and long-term sustainability. We welcome conversations with employers and community leaders who see potential for collaboration.
