Why the Bill of Rights matters
The Summer Street Bill of Rights affirms the dignity, choice, and voice of every person who participates in our programs. It was developed with input from participants and families and is reviewed through the Participant Council so that policy reflects lived experience.
Rights are not abstract principles here—they guide daily decisions about programming, employment supports, personal goals, privacy, safety, and how staff and volunteers interact with the people we serve.
Living our commitments
Staff orientation, volunteer training, and board governance all reference the Bill of Rights. When questions arise about practice or policy, participants are encouraged to raise concerns through trusted staff, the Participant Council, or leadership.
Summer Street continues to refine policies as community expectations evolve, always with the goal of respectful, person-centred support.
